Oil in a Demag gearbox is just like the oil in the engine of your car. It lubricates the moving metal parts and protect components for longer wear life. Performing your regularly scheduled maintenance and changing the lubricants and oils at specified intervals will assure your motor is running with top performance and life. In your operator manual, we give you general guidelines on the frequency for changing the oils and lubricants. The interval for changing oils and lubricants depends on the product and the way the product is being used. Some Demag products require frequent changes after a specified number of cycles while others can go many years between lubricant changes. Always check your owner’s manual for the proper intervals. Keep in mind that environmental factors, mounting positions, and the configuration of your gearbox could require more frequent changes. You will need to consult a qualified technician for advice as this is not addressed here.

Depending on the model, Demag uses a variety of different lubricants and oils that optimize the performance and life of gearboxes, chains, and wire rope. Some models use mineral oil with high pressure additives, some use gear grease, and others use specialized gear oils.  Some of these lubricants are packaged specifically for Demag while others use lubricant products from brands like Whitmore, Kluber, and ESSO Spartan. Always make sure you use the correct oil and lubricant for the specific Demag product you are working on.
