Demag DR Wire Rope Hoist- Troubleshooting the Most Common Error and Flash Codes

The day never starts or ends well if you’re experiencing an issue with a hoist on a crane. Demag cranes and hoists have built in systems to alert you of errors. When a hoist has our IDAPSY software included, it makes diagnosing issues quicker for a trained technician. Here we will cover the most common error codes associated with the Demag DR Wire Rope Hoist equipped with IDAPSY. We will give you an overview of the possible error codes and what they mean. You’ll also have the chance to download the Basic Troubleshooting Guide for Demag DR Wire Rope Hoists Equipped with IDAPSY Software below.

The Demag DR Wire Rope Hoist shows error codes and status messages in the pendant/transmitter LCD display if CANBUS communication is working. If no information is displayed in the LCD window, the flashing LED’s on control boards and sound sequences made by the warning horn may reveal the fault and which component is affected. The 4 places you should check for error messages are:

  • Error codes on the display of the pendant or DRC-10 handheld transmitter.
  • Flash codes of the blue LED found on the control board.
  • Flash codes of the green LED found on the control board.
  • Sound sequences coming from the warning horn.

Error codes shown on the LCD screen are displayed as a lightning bolt followed by a number and can occur individually or in groups. The LED flash codes have many meanings, both in normal operation and to alert you of an issue. For instance, a continuous flashing of the green LED without a skip indicates normal operation. If flashes happen in groups with pauses in between, it could mean a variety of things including safety issues like an error of the CANbus communication, the crane’s motion is blocked, or the crane circuit breaker is off.

Blue LED flash codes on the circuit board are related to the monitoring controller only. Errors shown could include normal operation notifications like the controller is waiting to sync the start from the main controller or the monitoring controller is working normally. It can also indicate errors like non-operational due to a hardware error, or that the monitoring controller is communicating the error status to the main controller.

Horn sound sequences usually happen when error codes are not displayed on screen and the crane will not run. These errors usually mean there is a hardware error, a communication error, or a broken wire in the CANbus network.

When it comes to an error code displayed as a number, this is where having your operator manual and the diagnostic resources of a qualified technician are important. Numbers displayed can be from 1 to 299 or x01 to x99. When displayed, the error code can contain one, two, or three digits. The error codes displayed vary based on the crane set up you have. For instance, some codes displayed would only be an error on a crane with multiple trolleys. The first digit of the error code defines its location:

  • 0=primary hoist selected
  • 1= crane bridge controls
  • 2= hoist 2 when running multiple hoists

Understanding the error codes on the Demag DR wire rope hoist will allow you to call in an IDAPSY trained technician when you need them most. The software allows them to diagnose a problem quicker so you can get back up and running.
