Industry Leading Safety and Productivity| Demag D-BP II Air Balancer

No more compromises! Your top priority is keeping your workforce safe and productive in assembly operations. As the newest addition to the Demag light lifting product offering, the Demag D-BP II Air Balancer gives you industry-leading safety so your operators can effectively maneuver and float loads.

The design of the D-BP II allows operators to float and maneuver loads easier and more ergonomically, giving your operators the intelligent lifting capabilities needed to do the job. This air balancer gives operators the perfect combination of speed and precision to complete the operation. Packed with safety features, some not found on competitive devices, the D-BP II balancer has the features you need so operators can be productive, precise, and safe.

The D-BP II air balancer is powered by clean air with models to support up to a 770-pound capacity and the ability to float loads up to 550 pounds. There is no electric power supply or electric motor needed so the balancer can be operated at 100% duty cycle. Movements are fast and can be precise when needed but always smooth and jerk-free.

The D-BP II uses 2-4 times less air than an air hoist and has lifting speeds that are faster than those found on air hoists or electric chain hoists. Lifting speeds can be easily controlled and the maximum speed can be adjusted to operator needs. All this makes cycle times shorter and your operations more cost efficient and safe. Since it’s clean air powered, it eliminates the need of oilers and other contaminates in the work environment. In addition, the air balancer requires very little maintenance and has a long, productive lifetime.

Industry Leading Safety

Air balancers allow a load to be floated and maneuvered ergonomically in many manufacturing operations like assembly lines in the automotive and aerospace industries. The Demag D-BP II air balancer has industry leading safety features you won’t find on other pneumatic balancers. No matter whether you need an up/down balancer or non-pendant model to integrate your own end tooling or grippers, there are safety features that make work safer for your operators.

Pneumatic balancers, or air balancers, are powered with a pressurized, clean air supply. This air is injected into the cylinder air chamber causing a low friction piston to move, translating to up and down motion. The piston has a ring seal to maintain pressure in the balancer air chamber. The Demag D-BP II air balancer has a special, Patented V-shaped low friction ring seal that maintains higher air pressure than standard lip seals used in other brands of air balancers. By maintaining higher air pressure, it makes maneuvering loads smoother and the operator will use less effort to move it.

Patented Overspeed Brake

The patented overspeed brake of the Demag D-BP II air balancer stops sudden, extremely fast upward movements. For instance, if a load were to fall off the hook during handling or floating or the rope was accidently cut, this would result in an extremely fast, upward movement. These movements are caused by a large amount of pressure in the air chamber with light or no weight load on the hook. The patented overspeed brake engages and stops the upward movement. Unlike competitive products, where is easy to unintentionally unset the brake, the brake of the D-BP II will only unlock if the balancer is lowered more than 8 inches. This helps to ensure the brake is safely unlocked only when intended.

D-BP II Up/Down Air Balancer

One of the most common air balancers found in assembly operations use up/down pendant controls. Unlike air or electric hoists, the Up/Down Balancer is faster and allows the load to be easily moved a short distance by hand (approximately 8” up or down). The D-BP II up/down balancer has three pendant configurations to meet your handling needs.

Choose the pendant with a straight hose to allow the operator to maneuver a larger load from a greater offset distance from the balancer. Since the pendant is separate from the hook, the balancer works in a familiar way to an electric chain hoist, only with clean air power. The operator can control the component with one hand while the other controls the pendant.

The hook mounted pendant with spiral hose allows the operator to control the load and pendant with one hand with speed and precision. When you need an air balancer for the fastest pick and place operations the in-line handle gives operators the control needed.

The Demag D-BP II in-line handle delivers variable speed control unlike competitive balancers with this handle type. All up/down balancers come standard with a rotating safety lock hook.

D-BP II Up/Down Air Balancer with Load Sensing (Balancing) Controls

When your operations require an up/down balancer with the ability to float a load over a greater distance, choose the Demag D-BP II air balancer with load sensing controls. In addition to the standard up/down controls, this balancer has an additional switch which, when activated, allows you to float a load up to 150 pounds. Unlike a standard up/down balancer where the load can only be moved by hand 8” up or down, the Load Sensing control allows the load to be moved almost effortlessly over the entire lifting range of the balancer.

Load Weight Compensation- Lift Every Load the Same Speed

Operators can be caught off-guard if a load moves extremely quickly and suddenly. Load weight compensation is a standard safety feature that is only found on Demag D-BP II up/down model air balancers. This safety feature allows every single load, regardless of weight, to be lifted at the same speed. It also means that an empty hook will not move at a very fast, potentially unsafe speed.

Load Weight Compensation is a unique control system that equalizes the lift speeds of different load weights. The system uses a special regulator to make movements controllable over the weight range. The feature does not slow the speed of handling but rather is able to mitigate speeds to be similar between the maximum and minimum load weights. The “safe speed” of the balancer is set from the factory but it is adjustable to your needs. Many competitive balancers use a standard throttle valve which can allow for very fast, potentially unsafe speeds with an empty hook or a very lightweight component attached to the hook. Load Weight Compensation assures extremely fast, upward motion will not happen and reduces the likelihood the overspeed brake will ever be engaged.

BaseLoad Functionality

BaseLoad functionality on the D-BP II air balancer makes handling fragile components safer by preventing a common operator error. The adjustable baseload function is set to maintain enough air pressure to always balance the weight of an attached gripper, vacuum or end effector. The operator is prevented from exhausting all air from the balancer which could lead to the end effector sinking or falling after the load is set down.

Load Limiter Function

The load limiter function on the Demag D-BP II up/down air balancer assures the balancer will only lift a specified load. It makes lifting and floating loads safer for the operator by limiting the weight the balancer can lift. Easily adjustable, the load limit function can be precisely adjusted to even the heaviest capacity load for the balancer model. It has no influence on lifting speed so your operators will be able to work efficiently, lifting the load capacity necessary. In addition to limiting the weight lifted, it can be used to provide extremely precise overload protection, even more precise than what can be achieved with an electric chain hoist. When you need to make work safer for your operators, providing a tool that allows them to efficiently lift the correct capacity load is critical.

Interlock Visualization Display

When operators are using a pneumatic balancer to lift, maneuver, and float components, it is critical to make it as safe as possible. Though worker errors are unavoidable, the interlock visualization display can add a safety element with an indication whether it is safe or unsafe to release a load when using mechanical or powered grippers. The Interlock Visualization Display uses a red or green LED light to indicate whether it is safe to release the load with grippers. Whether the operator is new to the process or someone who has been performing the task longer, the interlock visualization display can add additional assurance for your operators and help make processes safer.

D-BP II Non-Pendant Balancers

Unlike the up/down balancers, non-pendant balancers come ready for you to integrate custom end tooling, end effectors, and grippers for your specialized needs. They are available in one, two, and three load models to float and maneuver loads to your customized requirements. All Demag air controls include input pressure monitoring to safely hold the load if the air supply line is cut.

One or Single Load Balancers

The Single, or One Load Air Balancer, can be used to suspend a fixed, constantly attached load up to 110 pounds. Perfect for suspending a weld gun or tightening tool, use the D-BP II pneumatic balancer to effortlessly float the tool wherever it is needed. Once the operator has performed the operation, the tool will continue floating at the same level, unlike spring balancers. Loads up to 110 pounds can be easily moved by hand over the entire lifting range of the balancer. For heavier loads up to 330 pounds, the special feather touch connection allows the balancer to sense when the operator takes the tool in-hand and once again allows it to be moved with little effort.

When your operations require a heavier load or tool to float, there is D-BP II air balancer model that can float loads up to 550 pounds. This higher capacity Single Load balancer includes a Tendency Switch to provide extra assistance for balancing the heavier load. The operator simply flips the switch in the direction he wants to travel, and the balancer will then float the heavy load.

Two or Dual Load Balancers

The Dual Balancer, or Two Load Balancer, allows you to float two suspended loads of different weights over the entire lifting range of the balancer. The first of these loads is the empty gripper or handling device. The second load is the weight of the gripper or handling device plus the weight of the load to be lifted. The designer of the tool will provide a pneumatic signal to the balancer once the load to be lifted is safely secured. The balancer will then add the proper air pressure in order to float the heavier load.

Three Load Balancers

The Three Load Balancer allows you more flexibility with your custom gripper or end effector. Along with the gripper, the D-BP II balancer will pick up two preset, defined loads. This is convenient for an operator on an assembly line who is connecting a component to an assembly, but the component comes in two sizes, depending on the model being built. The integrator you work with will create a pneumatic signal in the end tooling so the balancer knows which programmed weight the gripper is picking up.

Demag Input Pressure Monitoring

Demag air controls come with input pressure monitoring, ensuring the load is held even with a catastrophic loss of input air pressure. Without this pressure monitoring feature, a suspended load could be dropped. All D-BP II non-pendant model air balancer controls come standard with this safety feature when equipped with Demag controls.

Keeping your workforce safe is a top priority so make sure you choose equipment that can help you meet your goals. Whether you need an up/down air balancer or one integrated with grippers, end tooling, or end effector, the Demag D-BP II air balancer delivers industry leading safety features like load weight compensation, input supply pressure monitoring, and a patented overspeed brake as standard options. Add optional safety features to keep your operators safer, meeting your unique process needs.
