Capabilities of the Demag DCBS Electric Balancer

The Demag DC Chain Hoist family of products is a customer favorite! With two speed or stepless variable speed options in either the Manulift or traditional pendant controlled, the DC chain hoist has been helping industries lift for more than 15 years. The newest member of the DC chain hoist family is the Demag DCBS Electric Balancer. This electric balancer will give your assembly line and production processes the intuitive control for precise positioning you’ve been looking for. These balancers are priced competitively to meet your needs!

The Demag DCBS electric balancer uses our high strength, proprietary chain, which is rugged enough for the most demanding applications. All Demag DC hoists come standard with a chain bucket to keep the excess chain neatly stored.

When your operations require precise and intuitive handling, the DCBS electric balancer is the answer. The DCBS is the only electric balancer that automatically switches from moving the load with the grip handle to load guided using 2 hands, or “float” mode. This functionality is programmable right out of the box! Because the DCBS automatically switches between modes, the operator does not have to press a button to transition between the two modes!

Modes to Meet Your Requirements

The DCBS has 4 programmable and adjustable operating modes to meet assembly needs. Standard modes include Grip Guide Mode, Load Positioning Mode, Assembly Mode and Load Pick-Up Mode. Each of these modes brings unique benefits for the specific action you need to perform.

Grip Guide Mode

Grip Guide mode is a standard operating mode when higher lifting speeds are necessary. The load is controlled by the operator grasping the D-Grip Servo handle. It’s an intelligent handle with a special sensor that detects the slightest movements. The Grip Handle only becomes active when a sensor on the grip handle detects that is has been grasped by the operator. Grip Guide mode is the all-purpose mode for load handling, especially when higher speeds are required for fast paced pick and pack operations.

Load Positioning Mode allows the operator to use two hands to guide the load.

Load Positioning Mode

Load Positioning Mode is used when the precision of two-handed load guidance is needed. This standard mode allows the operator to grasp the load with both hands and easily maneuver it into position. Minute up or down movements of the operator’s hands are detected by a second integrated load sensor in the D-Servo handle. In Load Positioning Mode, the load is constantly monitored by the integrated sensor so the load can always be safely maneuvered into the correct position.

Assembly Mode

Assembly Mode is a second version of Load Positioning Mode used for easily connecting even the tightest fitting parts together. As with Load Guide Mode, the operator uses both hands to guide the load into position. The difference in Assembly Mode is the speed and reactivity of the balancer are slightly reduced to allow the very highest level of precision.

This mode also responds quickly when the load comes into contact with another object and is ideal for horizontal assembly processes. As a component is lined up in Assembly Mode, the balancer helps the operator find the proper height to hold the component. The operator will start to install the component and as the component is moved horizontally, the balancer will use slight up and down movements to determine the proper level at which to hold the load. The DCBS helps perform this difficult task with ease. Changing back to Load Positioning Mode is easy. Simply grip the handle to handle the load at a higher lifting speed.

Load Tensioning Mode

Load Tensioning Mode can be programmed to your specific needs to help prepare for the next operation. This mode can be used after the operator has completed the first part of the task and has set the load down. He can then activate Load Tensioning Mode by pressing a button on the handle. The balancer will then very slowly begin to lift to a pre-programmable weight. By fine tuning the weight setting via the laptop programmer included with the balancer, or via an optional handheld terminal, you can set up the balancer to either slightly tension the chain or slightly lift the load. It is now ready for the next operation. The DCBS saves time and reduces the chance of unwanted “snatching” of the load that can occur when the chain is slack.

Float the Load

The DCBS electric balancer allows you to float the load, meaning the load feels nearly weightless to the operator. With very little force from the operator, a load can be lifted and moved so lifting is safer and more ergonomic. What does intuitive control mean for the DCBS balancer? Intuitive control means there is no need to press a button to change the operator’s grip on the load to switch between standard operating modes. The intelligent D-Grip Servo handle has built-in sensors that detect when the load is being moved with the grip or with hands on the load itself. It detects even the slightest movement for complete, almost effortless control of the load.

Because the DCBS is part of the DC chain hoist family, it is equipped with our quick release coupling to easily switch out different attachments. The operator simply disconnects the attachment by lifting the unlock sleeve and inserts the new one in. Demag has a wide range of attachments to lift nearly anything including hooks, parallel and box grippers, and pantograph tongs. Our partner dealers and other partner companies are able to design any custom gripping device to meet your specific needs.

Specially designed for assembly and manufacturing production processes

The DCBS Chain Hoist with Balancer Function is designed for assembly and manufacturing production requiring precise positioning, handling of fragile components, or completion of horizontal assembly steps. It’s the only balancer available that automatically switches from grip guided mode to load guide mode where both hands can be used to guide the load. It can be programmed to automatically switch over function right out of the box!

Safety Features You Expect from Demag

The DCBS eliminates uncontrolled movements and load collisions, which are inherent risks in these processes. Even if the load is set on an uneven surface, the DCBS will hold the load steady. It automatically protects against snatching loads, chain slack, and uncontrolled movements. It also has automatic braking so if a malfunction occurs, the load is safely held.

The Demag DCBS Chain Hoist with Balancer Function has been built on the DC chain hoist platform, a customer favorite with its familiar and proven design. It uses proven technology, insuring reliability and requires low maintenance. The proven DC gearbox, slipping clutch and brake is maintenance free for up to 10 years. No adjustment to the brake is needed and the regenerative brake design makes brakes last longer.

The Demag DCBS Electric Balancer delivers intuitive control in your assembly processes. It’s the only balancer available that can automatically switches from Grip Mode to Load Guide Mode. No matter what action is needed, the DCBS has a mode to optimize your processes. It allows for ergonomic lifting and load handling. Using the Demag DC chain hoist platform you already know and trust, this electric balancer can be customized to create a full solution for your unique processes. Don’t forget to match your DCBS with a Demag KBK light crane system, monorail, or jib.
