The new generation of DRS wheel blocks is here! Trusted as the reliable solution in cranes and material handling projects, the next generation wheel system will bring even more benefits to these applications. The new Demag DRS-M wheel block system is rugged, modular, and versatile to meet your needs. Learn more about the new DRS-M wheel block system.
The original Demag DRS wheel block was released to the market in 1997 to meet the needs of moving heavy loads both on cranes and other material handling equipment. These wheels have been used in tens of thousands of applications worldwide. With 8-wheel sizes to meet varied needs, the DRS wheel block has been a trusted component for movement for 25 years.
New Features Added to a Reliable Solution
The new DRS-M wheel block is targeted to bring more benefits to the 112, 125, 160, and 200 sized wheels. Commonly found on Demag crane applications, the improved DRS-M wheel gives your crane service technicians added benefits to better service your customers. When your capacity needs exceed the DRS-M offering, the larger DRS 250-500 sizing is still available to meet your needs up to 40 tons.
The new DRS-M wheel block housing is comprised of 2 identical halves mounted together, manufactured in our production facility in Wetter, Germany. The housing is made of high quality, corrosion-resistant, die-cast aluminum with powder coating finish. The housing protects the wheels on 5 sides, fully enclosing and protecting the travel wheel and bearing within. In addition, the housing allows for a wide variety of connection variations without the need for additional fabrication.
The rugged design is easy to install with a new patented alignment connection, eliminating adjustment time for top mounted wheels. The DRS-M is designed to make travel and braking on the crane runway smooth. With the DRS-M wheel block, you have the choice of seven variations of travel wheel materials including spheroidal-graphite cast iron, polyamide, and Hydropur tires. Wheels are designed with high strength, anti-friction bearings.
M Means Modular
The DRS-M wheel block allows for the ultimate in modularity and performance in overhead crane applications. Designed to be modular, the DRS-M wheel housing is comprised of two symmetrical housing shells that enclose the wheel. The housing sides are prefabricated to accommodate a large number of connection points to meet your needs whether attaching to a crane end truck or another material handling application.
If you are replacing an existing DRS wheel block with a new DRS-M, it is an exact replacement. The two generations of wheels are sized for exact replacement. This makes replacement on end trucks and architectural or material handling applications easy.
Simple Wheel Replacement on Overhead Cranes
The new DRS-M wheel block has a patented fixed top connection making installation and replacement easy. The wheel is attached using an assembly latch fixed to the steel superstructure. When you are replacing a DRS-M wheel block on a crane end truck, you’ll be able to do the job quickly and easily. The symmetrical housing eliminates realignment time for top-mounted wheel blocks when the travel wheel needs to be replaced.
Mechanical Wear Gauge
DRS-M wheel blocks makes inspection simple with the addition of the mechanical wear indicator. This new patented feature is mounted to the outside of the wheel block housing. The knurled nut uses a color scale to indicate the circumference of the travel wheel and gauge the condition of the wheel, making regular inspection easier.
Guide Roller and Buffer Ready
If your application requires guide rollers along the rail or buffers, the DRS-M wheel block housing comes ready to mount the guide rollers. Unlike the original DRS wheel block, the DRS-M comes ready with threaded bore holes on the end faces. This makes installation or replacement simple. Although the wheel block itself is a direct replacement between the 2 models, the guide rollers for each model are not interchangeable. You must order the correct guide roller package for the model you are installing.
Because the DRS-M wheel block is guide roller ready, the wheel can accommodate even higher horizontal forces. The DRS-M 200 can now accommodate 20% of the given wheel load and ensure smooth running under extreme loads.
The DRS-M wheel block will be immediately available in sizes 160 and 200. The 112 and 125 sizes will follow in mid-Q2 2022. Make sure your crane service technicians and sales team know about the new DRS-M wheel block system and the added benefits it will bring to your customers.
