Technology advancements have brought us many benefits as everyday consumers and from the perspective of businesses. This has changed our expectations into being able to search the internet to find the immediate answer and instant gratification. Technology advancements within cranes has been constant and gives us some of the things we crave like an immediate answer and instant gratification. IDAPSY software was launched in Demag CANBUS controlled hoists and cranes 17 years ago. This software is a great tool for crane service technicians and can help optimize your operations. In this post, read about the benefits of IDAPSY software that run Demag hoists and cranes with CANBUS control.
The software that runs in CANBUS controlled Demag hoists and cranes is also a diagnostic tool for the crane service technician. Functioning similar to the OBD scanner plugged into your car to read the errors associated with a check engine light, IDAPSY software constantly monitors the running conditions of the equipment. This constant monitoring allows for predictive maintenance and easy communication of error codes. CANBUS controlled Demag hoists and cranes include those equipped with the Demag DR Pro wire rope hoist and DMR SafeControl hoists.
With minimal training requirements necessary, Demag authorized dealers in the US and Canada can purchase the basic IDAPSY diagnostic software license. These dealers can also take our Advanced IDAPSY training to gain more expertise and purchase the advanced software license. If you are reading this and located outside the USA or Canada, please use our global contact locator to inquire about IDAPSY software licenses and other training in your area.
Easy to Use Interface
Basic IDAPSY software is easy to use. Once the license is purchased, you receive the software download instructions with your username/ password. It also includes the interface module and cables to connect your laptop to the crane or hoist board. The software is installed on the crane service technician’s laptop using the login credentials delivered with the license set. When connected to a crane or hoist, the technician can run a site analysis procedure. This is simply connecting and downloading the data from the hoist or crane to the laptop computer.
Get Actionable Data
With the download completed, the technician has access to operating data and statistics. These statistics include the operating timeclock and counters for the contacts, relays, switches, and monitored functions. Basic IDAPSY diagnostic software allows crane service technicians to diagnose issues quicker when the wrench symbol appears in your pendant screen. The counter values are shown with a colored background, with those triggering a wrench symbol appearing in red. The red background indicates that the associated hardware is near the end of its useful life. The software also keeps record of excessive brake run-on, overloads, sudden e-stops, transmitter and receiver errors. The service technician can use this record in conjunction with error codes to help diagnose an issue.
Easily View Error Codes
Once the technician connects his computer to the hoist or bridge control board, he can study the error history to see any trends and the error codes themselves. In the basic software, the last 16 error codes with time stamps (based on the clock in the operating data) are viewable. The error code log allows technicians to view the error codes on cranes with pendants or radios whose displays do not work or do not have a display. The technician can make multiple downloads over a short period of time to diagnose issues being seen with the equipment.
Accurate Counters for Predictive Maintenance
IDAPSY software running in CANBUS controlled Demag hoists and cranes include counters for predictive maintenance. What most technicians notice, once the Basic diagnostic software has downloaded the data, is many of these counters have never been reset. They have not been reset because the technician performing previous work was not equipped with the software. This makes predictive maintenance irrelevant.
Once the service technician is using the Basic software in conjunction with his service, the corresponding counters can be reset when new parts are installed, hoists brakes are adjusted, and any electrical work is performed. When keeping up with service resets to preserve the predictive maintenance functionality, the wrench symbol appearing in the pendant or radio display can be taken seriously.
Technicians changing modules, control boards or monitoring switches should zero out the corresponding counter values using the Service Reset function. This reset is completed by checking the box that comes up to indicate the hardware was changed or the work is done. When the technician completes a complete control board changeout, multiple checkmarks are entered. Alternatively, when only the hoist motor brake is adjusted, only one checkbox is indicated.
IDAPSY software that runs on CANBUS controlled Demag hoists and cranes is a diagnostic tool to optimize your operations. It helps maximize uptime of your hoist or crane with predictive maintenance. Crane service technicians who service CANBUS controlled Demag equipment with the Basic IDAPSY software can diagnose issues faster with the information accessible with the connection to the control board. It’s easy to use and gives technicians insights into regularly occurring error codes and other in-use events so he can make a better-informed maintenance plan.
